Omex offers new advice

Omex Horticulture UK is to be headed up by new staff members Mark Horner and Scott Garnett, who are hoping to use their experience in this market, from practical crop husbandry to sales and marketing, to provide growers with agronomic and crop nutrition advice.

“We can provide new solutions to old problems and effectively reduce current environmental pressures,” says newly-appointed divisional manager Horner. “A key part of this package is an ability to tailor a cost-effective agronomical approach designed to boost quality and yield. Soft-fruit growers will be able to tap into a range including new own-branded fertilisers as well as existing established manufacturers on an exclusive basis.

“The range of products includes new ideas in nutrition introducing patented coating and calcium compound fertiliser technology never seen in the UK before, as well as an extensive list of speciality fertilisers, most of which have a proven track record throughout the world.”

Omex bulk liquids with concentrated NPK, straight or prescription solutions, can be used in all horticultural crops without the fear of irrigation blockages commonly found with other fertiliser types, says Horner. “The company will also specialise in super-concentrated suspension liquids offering a cost-effective alternative to powders where liquid is preferable. By offering both NPK and single nutrient packages these versatile suspensions are ideal for use either as total nutrition or as supplementary feeds.”

Part of the company’s nutritional programme involves the use of foliar nutrients, biostimulants and health promoters to make sure that crop potential is optimised both in terms of quality and quantity. Omex Horticulture also manages an organic product portfolio and works closely with the Soil Association to help develop the range.

In health promoters, Omex is developing a range of nutrient-based speciality fertilisers specifically targeted at improving crop health. Research has shown that improvements in crop health benefit not only the crop, but also the environment by minimising the need for routine pesticide use.

“The use of plant stimulant nutrient packages and biostimulant products is at the forefront of this technology offering one of the most comprehensive product ranges, including unique root zone amendment products under the Biomex banner,” Horner says. “These products encourage the growth of naturally occurring soil fungi, which effectively increase nutritional uptake and compete within the root zone to greatly reduce pressure from other pathogens in compost incorporated or root drench form.”

Omex also manufactures a full range of advanced speciality fertilisers including Bio 20, a balanced NPK suspension with the addition of a 30 per cent organic biostimulant. This stimulant contains an extensive package of trace elements, phyto-hormones, amino acids and vitamins formulated to boost plant support systems, relieve stress, stimulate rooting and increase fruit quality as a foliar or liquid additive. A range of individual foliar nutrients helps to pinpoint deficiencies or imbalances, while other biostimulants help to overcome plant stress from other environmental pressures.

“Integrated Crop Management (ICM) is also an integral part of our commitment to total crop nutrition, which is to combine the benefits of NPK and individual nutrients and the incorporation of biostimulants and plant health promoters,” says Garnett. “With these products we have the basis on which to create robust, healthy plants that exploit water and nutrients more efficiently and are better able to withstand the challenges of environmental stress, pests and diseases.”
