Upmarket online delivery firm Ocado has followed retailer Selfridges in stocking Black Garlic.

Black Garlic has been a “chef’s favourite” in the US since 2009 where the New York Times dubbed it the “hottest ingredient in the US at the moment” and the product has been gaining momentum in the UK. Black Garlic, which is aged white Garlic, leaves no after smell and is completely sweet.

Katy Heath, managing director of Black Garlic Ltd, the exclusive supplier of Black Garlic in the UK and Europe, said: “It has an ability to improve taste but not overwhelm dishes. It is also really versatile, kids can snack on it, families can cook with it and a daily dose helps to maintain good health, all without the after smell”.

Black Garlic Ltd said that the product, which is available in bulbs, peeled, paste, powder and sauce, is in being developed in different sectors across the country as bigger brands blend it into tomato sauces, pastes, quiches, pies and risottos.
