Ocado chief executive and former Marks & Spencer boss Sir Stuart Rose is in line for a peerage in the upcoming list of Conservative appointments.

Rose, who was knighted in 2008 for his services to the retail industry and CSR, was also previously chief executive of Booker and non-executive director at South African-listed retailer Woolworths. He was chief executive of M&S between 2008 and 20011, and has been head of online grocery retailer Ocado since 2013.

He will be joined on the Tory back benches by The Apprentice star and businesswoman Karen Brady.

Several media outlets have suggested that both appointments will re-open the debate on rewarding donations with honours. Both Brady and Rose have donated to the Conservative party in the past, and have appeared at the annual party conference.

The news comes at a time when the main parties are attempting to garner financial support from business leaders in the run-up to next year’s general election, the Telegraph newspaper said.

There will be around 20 new peers appointed, with the majority selected by Prime Minister Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
