Could British growers seek new shores in New Zealand?

Business specialists and emigration experts are advising that New Zealand is set to be a land of opportunity for beleaguered British farmers.

This advice comes in the wake of New Zealand’s recent free trade agreement with China, the fastest growing export market in the world. This will see the country’s farmers set to be the biggest beneficiaries.

Independent business adviser Jamie Smith said: “New Zealand already has a diverse export market, with strong trade links with China and Japan. But now they are the first Western nation to clinch a free trade agreement with China. This agreement will significantly strengthen New Zealand’s economy, creating huge demand for staple farming goods.”

He added: “Exports to China’s 1.2 billion strong market include wool, fruit, seafood, lamb and beef.”

According to UK emigration experts, The Emigration Group, enquiries from farmers have been on the increase since this free trade agreement. Paul Arthur, director of the group, said: “We have had a number of emigration enquiries from farmers since the free trade announcement with China, and it is clear why. There has never been a better time for British farmers to make the move to New Zealand. An enhanced trade relationship with the world’s fastest-growing economy is an outstanding achievement which will create huge demand for local produce.”
