Pipfruit New Zealand chairman Ian Palmer has told the NZ press that fruit size of early Royal Gala and Cox has been smaller than recent season averages. There is also concern among growers of a shortage of pickers because of a bigger late season crop to harvest.
Most of the Jazz crop is now in and growers are continuing to pick Pink Lady, Fuji and Braeburn, Nelson Mail reported, adding that Jazz sizing was down slightly, but better than first thought after a cool summer.
