New Zealand government plans to share biosecurity costs with producers has angered growers.
Horticulture New Zealand said the attempts by ministers to get the sector to pay for the entry of pests into New Zealand is disappointing.
Agriculture minister David Carter said that the policy of cost-sharing would offer growers more direct involvement in decision-making.
However, this was slammed by the industry as meaning they would have to pay to get the government to listen and tantamount to getting exporters to meet the cost of risk created by imports.
