New Zealand growers are rallying in support of kiwifruit marketer Zespri following its announcement of three new varieties last week and criticism from Turners & Growers. Grower representative body Horticulture New Zealand issued a statement congratulating the kiwifruit industry on setting its goal of NZ$3 billion (£1.42bn) in export revenue by 2025, and called on other parts of the industry to set similar bold and determined targets. HortNZ president Andrew Fenton, a kiwifruit grower, said: “Zespri’s aim to triple its earnings in the next 15 years is exactly the kind of motivational target the horticulture industry strategy released last year was promoting.”
