Morrisons is encouraging its customers to “fall into Autumn” with Kentish cobnuts.
The Yorkshire based chain has the traditional Kentish line in its stores at £1.99 a punnet, and said: “Autumn is officially here and what better way to get into the spirit?”
The cobnut is a type of hazelnut and has experienced a resurgence in popularity since reaching its nadir in the 1980s. Since the formation of the Kentish Cobnut Association in 1990, there has been an increase in production, and Morrisons has seen demand grow in its stores.
Morrisons nut buyer, Bryan Worth, said: “[Cobnuts] are only available for about eight weeks a year. They’re perfect in seasonal salads, simply roasted or as part of a warming soup.
“We work with our supplier in Kent to get the best Cobnuts available, and to make sure they only go into store when they’re at their absolute best.”
