Ornamental growers have received a boost this week with the news that they are to become eligible for funds under the Single Payment Scheme.

“After years of lobbying through the European Nurserystock Association and with Defra, I am delighted that the position of growers of Nurserystock in the Single Payment Scheme has finally been recognised,” said David Gwyther, HTA Director General.

“We understand that the final legal text should be published sometime in September or October, and Defra are therefore likely to be consulting with the industry on how and when this change will be implemented.”

“We need to understand how this new system will work and what the implications are for ornamental growers.”

The HTA has promised to work closely with Defra to implement the changes as soon as possible, ‘with the absolute minimum of bureaucracy so that our members can begin to claim on this land.’
