Several new Nunhems melon and watermelon varieties have proved a hit on the European market in 2007, according to the seed company, helping push up sales of the fruit.

Galia cultivars London, Amaregal and Yelogal, yellow fruits with good netting and high sugar level, have helped boost both overseas and European season supply, while small Piel de Sapo variety Nun 9275 has helped meet customer expectations during the overseas supply season.

“Yield of Piel de Sapo Nun 9275 is lower than other varieties, but consumer satisfaction and repeat purchase effect is evident,” says the company.

Sales of Yellow Canary and watermelon have continued to rise thanks to new cultivars, while Nunhems’ Magenta melon range continues to perform well during both the overseas and European seasons. Nunhems also introduced three new semi-netted Charentais varieties in 2007.
