Seed-breeder Nunhems is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Galia melon variety Amaregal.
Claude Guerin, produce chain specialist for France, UK & Belgium at Nunhems, has more than 20 years experience in the European supply chain. He said: “This is an excellent variety with a great consumer appeal because of its yellow skin, nice netting and of course its taste. It is a very reliable variety that pleases all parties in the chain that are working with it.”
The product is celebrated as a reliable winter variety by traders across northern and western Europe who import from Amaregal Galia from Central and South American during the European winter season.
Leon van den Hombergh, general manager at major melon importer Frankort & Koning said: “In 2007, when Amaregal first came to the market, it immediately set a new standard for Galia quality during the overseas season. Consumers love it for its taste, flesh colour and high brix. Traders love it for its excellent shelf live and growers love it for its ease of growing and harvesting.”
