Vegetable-seed breeder Nunhems is highlighting two butterhead lettuce varieties available to the UK’s glasshouse growers this winter.
Brian and Stuart both have a medium to large frame size, dark green colour and strong, neat base. Brian’s recommended sowing period is 25 August to 15 December and for Stuart it is 1 September to 1 December. Both varieties are highly resistant to downy mildew.
Matthew Beevers, crop sales manager for lettuce at Nunhems, part of Bayer CropScience said: “Brian is the one constant through changing and challenging winters for nearly a decade. A reliable benchmark you can depend on whatever the conditions.
"Stuart is your answer when you need to make weight midwinter. Giving extra speed and vigour when it’s really needed.”
