Dutch agro-diagnostics specialist Nsure has signed an agreement with New Zealand’s Plant & Food Research (PFR) to explore options for joint product development.

Both organisations use the latest developments in molecular science to maximise quality in fruit production: PFR is a renowned research institute in the field while NSure offers commercial services using this technology. Under the terms of the deal, NSure will be a commercial partner for marketing PFR research results and the Dutch firm has already developed methods that measure and predict a wide range of quality aspects in fruit, vegetables and ornamentals using unique molecular technology.

Part of the research PFR conducts in the field of genomics is closely related to the technology that NSure uses for molecular agro-diagnostics. The agreement is an opportunity for both companies to translate the latest in scientific data into practical and useful tools for growers and marketers of fresh produce.

Initially NSure and Plant & Food will explore possibilities for the development of tests for kiwifruit and apples. NSure is also planning to establish a presence in New Zealand within the next year. The first commercial tests resulting from this collaboration can be expected on the market in 2012.
