Notcutts sale completed

South-east based Notcutts has confirmed the sale of its nurseries to John Woods nurseries.

The purchase, which was completed on August 24, came about following a strategic review by Notcutts which highlighted the benefits that could be achieved by placing more of a focus on retail activities.

John Woods nurseries is a new company formed by former managing director and finance director of Notcutts, John Lord and John Kirkum.

William Notcutt, Notcutts’ deputy chairman, said, “We wish John Woods Nurseries success. I am confident that this change in ownership will enable the nurseries business to continue to flourish and as their largest customer we look forward to continuing a strong relationship.

“We can now focus on the exciting and evolving retail market secure in the knowledge that we have a very able plant supplier, freeing us from the business of plant production and wholesale sales. We remain proud of our plant heritage and the important role of plants as part of our retail offering.”

John Lord, John Woods’ managing director and chairman, said that the new company aims to continue to build on its plant heritage, and implement further the strategy put into place two years ago, namely to increase internal efficiencies and develop customer focus.

“With today’s highly competitive environment I am sure there are many challenges ahead and we are in a stronger position than ever before to meet them,” he added.
