The UK's first regional freight strategy will be launched on November 19.

The strategy will focus on the development and maintenance of an integrated, efficient and sustainable freight transport system in the region and has been developed by the North West Freight Advisory Group.

Stephen Kelly, Freight Transport Association (FTA) regional policy manager and secretary to the North West Freight Advisory Group, said: “Without good transport links to suppliers and customers the North West could lose its competitive edge. The regional freight strategy will assist policy makers, infrastructure providers and industry users to think how we can develop an integrated approach to the movement of freight in the North West considering all modes including road, rail, air and maritime transport. It will also help both industry and government alike to ensure good are delivered to the people and the businesses in the region.”

The North West Freight Advisory Group was established by a joint initiative between the FTA and the North West Development Agency. Partners include the North West Regional Assembly, Government Office North West, local authorities, the Highways Agency, Strategic Rail Authority and ports and airports.
