Logistics specialist Norbert Dentressangle has been awarded a five-year contract for the transportation operation at The Co-operative Group’s new composite distribution centre in Andover.

Norbert Dentressangle was selected following a competitive tender process and will undertake the new business once the

Co-op’s site opens in March. Plans for the 500,000sqft multi-temperature distribution centre were announced by the Co-op in September 2009 as part of the development of its logistics network, following the acquisition of the Somerfield chain.

The Andover site will employ 900 people when fully operational and will serve more than 400 Co-operative food stores in the south of England.

Norbert Dentressangle will employ 350 drivers including some from the Co-operative’s existing transport operation at Fareham.
