The British Potato Industry Award is presented to an individual recognised for their outstanding contribution to the UK potato industry.

Anyone wishing to nominate a person for the award should send their nomination form to the award committee secretary by July 15 2003. Five members of an award committee, drawn from the different sectors of the potato industry, will select the winner.

The winner will receive a sterling silver rose bowl, to be presented on the first day of British Potato 2003, the country's largest potato event being held at Newark, Nottinghamshire on September 3 and 4.

The award committee is made up of Lincolnshire farmer, chairman of SCRI and Chairman of the International Potato Centre (CIP) in Peru, Jim Godfrey; Norfolk farmer, Tony Bambridge; chief executive of Greenvale AP, Alan Owens; managing director of McCain Foods (GB) Ltd, Nick Vermont; and high-grade seed grower, Jim Cruickshank.

Previous winners are Charles 'Mac' McCarthy (1997); Frank Pirie (1998); Prof John Hillman (1999); Rod Herbert (2000); the late Richard Watson-Jones (2001) and Bob Meredith, pictured with BPC chairman David Walker, (2002).
