Denton Nisa Local stores

More than 270 former Costcutter retailers have joined Nisa since March 2012, the c-store retailer has reported, worth over £100 million to its business.

The group revealed earlier this month (March) that it had also welcomed 17 former Costcutter members based in Northern Ireland to the group. Since September 2014 Nisa has recruited £10 million worth of business in Northern Ireland.

These totals come in addition to a total of 545 stores, excluding export business, joining Nisa during 2014. While in the financial year to date, the company’s 'symbol' group grew by 5 per cent year-on-year.

The moves have been facilitated by Nisa setting up a dedicated helpline and fast-track support service to help dissatisfied retailers join the group.

The growth has also been driven by factors including the development of the company’s own label Heritage range, a leading distribution service, a refined brand proposition for 'symbol' businesses and the much publicised struggles experienced by competitor retail groups during 2014.

Nigel Gray, business unit director for symbol at Nisa, said: “The retailers who are joining us, like our current members, value their independence but also realise that through Nisa they benefit from a strong, recognised brand, sector leading delivery levels, low cost of goods, a 13,000-strong range, an award-winning own label brand and a great range of promotions which keeps them competitive in the market place.'

Nisa recently announced that it had appointed former Tesco and Aldi director, Nick Read, as its new chief executive, and he joins the company later this month. Read replaces long-serving CEO Neil Turton, who is leaving the business after 23 years to launch a new shopper insight business.
