The People’s Supermarket has strengthened its buying power by teaming up with national operator Nisa.

The London-based volunteer-run project has attracted considerable media attention for its counter-supermarket values. However, the announcement it will work closely with Nisa suppliers and source new refrigeration units and store equipment has drawn criticism.

“The People’s Supermarket isn’t a typical Nisa member, but it shares our values in the importance of local retailers and the relationships they form with their community,” said Andrew Mouse, Nisa group sales director.
