The NFU is writing to Lord Rooker expressing concern that there is critical lack of availability of labour in horticulture in 2007, particularly the soft fruit sector.

Using data supplied by SAWS operators, the NFU has explained that this lack of availability could lead to the loss of crops worth thousands of pounds.

The NFU has therefore called on the Home Office to reverse its decision on SAWS and also to look at ways in which the labour gaps can be filled well in advance of next years season.
