NFU virtual job centre helps search for seasonal workers

Farmers looking for extra workers to help out during the busy summer season this year can again post their job vacancies on NFUonline. The online job service was launched last year by the NFU to assist farmers with recruiting the manual labour needed during the peak harvest months.

NFU Horticulture committee chairman Graham Ward said: “We are urging farmers and growers to give us the details of their seasonal vacancies as early as possible to stand the best chance of securing workers for the busy periods.”

The NFUonline site is available only to members of the NFU and proved to be successful last year, facilitating farmers with the task of managing seasonal workforce needs. Growers throughout England and Wales can list the job details on the NFU website for work ranging from tree pruning, strawberry picking, fruit and vegetable harvesting to making hay.

Ward said: “Last year the virtual job centre worked very well in connecting our members with job vacancies with those looking for outdoor work in the summer months.”
