The NFU/Waitrose stand at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show made solely from seasonal British produce has been awarded a gold medal.
Designed by Penny Riley, the stand is the fourth successive gold at Hampton for the partnership between the NFU and Waitrose.
The entire stand is made up of seasonal British produce – nothing is grown especially for the display – so visitors can buy any of the fruit, vegetables or flowers in-store now.
This year the display also features a willow Union Flag, donated by Somerset Levels producers Coates English Willow, to demonstrate a turnaround for growers who saw land overrun by more than 10ft of water during the floods.
NFU horticulture adviser Chris Hartfield said: “Our growers know only too well the impacts the weather can have on their businesses and it is a testament to our industry that so many of them have been able to supply both this show and Chelsea.
“Visitors to Hampton always delight at out our display and seem especially taken aback when we explain that nothing is grown for the display – everything is seasonal and available to buy now. We look forward to backing British farming at this prestigious event.”
