NFU set to fly British flag

The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is keen to raise the profile of British farmers at the Food and Drink Expo, which kicks off on Sunday.

Buyers from the retail, wholesale and foodservice sectors will be among more than 80,000 visitors expected to attend the three-day trade show, in the Birmingham NEC.

Visitors to the NFU stand will learn more about the organisation, the key role its members play in providing high-quality solutions to the foodservice industry, and how it works with Assured Food Standards in promoting the Red Tractor logo.

A competition to win a prime meats hamper will run at the NFU stand, and visitors will be able to sample the first alcoholic drink to carry the Red Tractor assurance mark, the NFU Centenary beer, named Farmers Harvest.

NFU vice-president Paul Temple said: “It’s important we raise the profile of British farmers who produce food envied the world over for its quality and standards of animal welfare. We work extremely closely with the food industry to encourage them to buy British food where possible.

“The Food and Drink Expo is all about promoting quality products and the NFU stand will focus on telling visitors how they can buy locally produced, seasonal British Red Tractor-assured food.”
