The NFU is calling for nominations to its board of horticulture to serve from March 2006 through to January 2008.

Currently, those existing members seeking re-election include the chairman, Richard Hirst, Derek Jarman, Julian Hargreaves, Graham Nichols and Nathan Dellicott.

Two vacancies have been created by the fact that John Richardson has stepped down and John Hall resigned earlier in 2005.

A further vacancy has also arisen for someone to represent potatoes on the board after David Powell announced he is not intending to seek re-election.

Anyone seeking election to the board must obtain the support of 20 NFU members to be nominated for a position.

Those names are then submitted to an independent selection panel appointed by the president of the NFU.

Nominations need to be made to Philip Hudson, chief horticultural advisor, by February 10 at the latest.
