The National Farmers Union is calling on fruit, vegetable and flower growers to take part in a new online survey to help build a better picture of the industry.

Launching the survey today (October 27), NFU horticulture board chairman Richard Hirst said he hopes the results will help raise the profile of the growing industry, as well as the problems it faces from increased energy and labour costs. “We need all of our grower members to get onboard and join this nationwide survey to help build a fuller picture of the industry so we can be better informed to influence policy and decisions made in Government which affect us all,” he said.

The first round of the survey is open to growers of cauliflower, chrysanthemums, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and pre-packed white potatoes.

Information on other crops will be collected during the next phase.

The results will form part of a report that will be available to all NFU members. Those who help in providing information will receive a more detailed regional report.
