The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is holding an event to discuss the three main agricultural talking points of 2010 - the Common Agricultural Policy’s (CAP) reform, farming profitability and the general election.

NFU East Midlands will prompt industry’s discussions with a free, half-day conference entitled “Your farm, your NFU, your future”, on 25 February at The Olde Barn Hotel, Marston, Grantham.

Richard Hezlet, the NFU’s regional director, said: “This unique event draws together NFU’s keenest minds to speak on the changes farming faces in the next few years. NFU President, Peter Kendall, Tom Hind, head of economic and international affairs, and Dr Andrew Clark, NFU’s head of policy, will talk on the issues that affect your business and will listen to your views, to help them influence farming policy at the highest levels.”

Maeve Whyte, appointed the youngest director of the NFU's Brussels office, will give a European perspective on issues following the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty, which gives the European Parliament more say in EU regulation.

NFU’s head of taxation, Michael Parker will cast an expert eye over threats and opportunities for farming businesses and how Britain’s economic future could be shaped by tax changes.

Hezlet added: “It is vital that we get farmers’ views on these issues and that you have an insight into what’s coming up on the horizon. This conference is a great opportunity to hear from those who represent farming and for you to have your say, too. With a change of government in May, the reform of the CAP and changing priorities on food security and the environment, our industry must be well represented and well informed. This is your chance to find out how your NFU can help your future.”
