Sarah Dawson has been re-elected as chair of the NFU Board for Horticulture, while several new faces have been added to the board.

Dawson’s re-election was confirmed at a board meeting in London this week, with Anthony Snell continuing as deputy chairman.

The new board members are Paul Simmonds (protected crops), Ali Capper (top fruit and hops), Guy Poskitt (carrots and root veg), Ian Riggs (ornamentals) and Mark Leggott (vining peas and brassicas).

Dawson said her next term as chair would allow her to see through the union’s long-term investigation into Britain’s fresh produce supply chain, which culminates in the publication of the Catalyst for Change report in July.

“I want to ensure the new board members feel welcomed and that they can inject their enthusiasm and represent their sectors of the industry,” she said. “The key themes for the coming year will be securing a successor to the SAWS scheme, getting a robust and effective POs scheme in place that works for growers, continuing to work closely with AHDB and ensuring the outputs of R&D are communicated effectively to growers. We’ll also be getting right behind the NFU’s new Farming Delivers campaign with some exciting consumer-focused work in the pipeline.”
