Food logistics specialist NFT has been awarded two internationally recognised certifications at its St Albans depot for its commitment to both environmental and health and safety best practice.

The company was awarded ISO 4001 by the British Standards Institute for its environmental management practices, which include reducing energy consumption in its 365,000sqft warehouse and minimising its customers’ carbon footprint through reduced empty mileage running.

NFT also achieved the British Standard’s 18001 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

The St Albans site, which operates as a composite distribution centre for deliveries to Sainsbury's stores in the South East, was commended for its ability to identify and manage risks, as well as reduce the potential for accidents and improve performance through its ongoing training programme.

David Frankish, chief executive of NFT, said: “Environmental and health and safety best practice are key priorities for NFT, as demonstrated by the wide-ranging initiatives the company has introduced over the last year.

“Meeting both the 14001 and 18001 standards ensures benchmarks are developed, implemented and maintained at all times.”
