The managing director of one of the UK’s largest fresh produce growers, Newmafruit Farms Ltd, will step down from daily operations on October 31.

On Halloween Melvyn Newman hands over to the company’s current commercial director Tony Frankham, who will take up the managing director role. Derek Peter will take over as company secretary.

Newman, aged 64, will continue as chairman and will still take an active interest in the business, but Frankham will run the day-to-day operations.

Frankham said it was an honour to step into Newman’s shoes. “I am looking forward to ensuring that this forward-thinking business continues to play an exciting role in the UK’s fresh produce industry and that we continue to grow and add value for our staff and customers,” he added.

Newman said he is looking forward to the new chapter in his life, which will start with a trip to Australia.
