Several figures from the UK food and farming sectors have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

Well-known Lincolnshire broadcaster Alan Stennett was handed an MBE for services to the farming industry and broadcasting in Lincolnshire, while British Retail Consortium chief executive Helen Dickinson got an OBE.

There was also an OBE for Ian Pigott, founder of Open Farm Sunday and chairman of Farming & Countryside Education (FACE).

Zameer Choudrey, the chief executive of Bestway, has been made a CBE for services to the UK wholesale industry and charity in the UK and abroad.

Elsewhere there was a CBE for former DARDNI senior finance director Gerald Lavery, OBEs for former Defra international plant health adviser Stephen Ashby and Children’s Food Trust head of nutrition Patricia Mucavele, and an MBE for Ben Parker, chairman of River Bourne Community Farm in Wiltshire.

Calina MacDonald received an MBE for services to business and horticulture in Skye and Lochalsh.
