New Year celebrations for watercress company

The Watercress Company has completed a 3-year programme of Assurance Certification on three farms in UK, Spain and the US, which produce watercress and baby leaf crops.

The campaign started in April 1999 when TWC reached 100 per cent compliance for the UK Assured Produce Scheme, something only a handful of growers had achieved at the time.

After the achievement of the accreditation, the technical team was expanded by the appointment of Ollie Bedford with the specific task of driving the standards throughout the company from its UK base in Dorset, England.

The developments continued towards completion of EurepGAP ñ with 100 per cent compliance in all three countries ñ and Nature's Choice throughout, with two of the three farms achieving GOLD status.

“We are delighted to have completed this milestone which has been achieved by a concerted team effort,” said TWC technical director Tom Amery. “2003 has been very rewarding for not only EurepGAP and Nature's Choice but also because it has been a year for formalising our environmental commitment by achieving LEAF Marque status on our UK farm base”.

Amery added that TWC will continue to strengthen its assurance status and is already looking forward to announcing its next planned achievements towards the end of 2004.
