UK recipe box company Little Cook Box are seeking crowdfunded capital to expand into the growing food box market.
Launched nationwide in February this year, Little Cook Box is a recipe box service designed to make healthy children’s meals simple to cook. Their meal kits include fresh ingredients for parents to cook nutritionally balanced evening meals with instructions designed to encourage children to engage in the cooking process.
The UK recipe box market is growing 65% year-on-year according to Little Cook Box, with the recent IPO of the adult recipe box business Hello Fresh be valued at €1.7billion.
Co-founder Simon Guest said: “With one in ten children entering primary school classed as obese and home economics no longer on the curriculum, many children lack the basic cooking skills they will need in later life. Balancing work and home commitments is becoming increasingly difficult for many parents and they often feel guilty about the quality of food they are feeding the children, especially during the working week.”
Little Cook Box has sold 3,500 meal kits since its inception as well as building up 22,000 social media followers in just over four months.
The company is now planning their next phase of development and are looking to the crowd for funding. Co-founder Philippa Guest commented: “We want to help make parents’ lives easier and the lives of children healthier but to do that we need investment and the advocacy of the crowd. The recipe box market is growing rapidly and predicted to be worth £445 million by 2020 in the UK, so we’re in a hurry to expand our marketing reach and establish Little Cook Box as the leader in our niche.”
