Asda has launched three new Extra Special tomato products in a bid to refresh its offer.
All three products are premium snack sized varieties and are aimed at meeting the needs of the growing special occasions market.
Kelly Colrein, marketing manager with suppliers English Village Salads, said: “We conducted extensive research that revealed customers are looking for premium tomatoes when they are entertaining and having parties and barbeques.”
She said the Asda tomato category was enjoying consistently good growth so far this year and pointed to improvements in quality, a greater range of premium toms and a low-price strategy.
“Our Extra Special range now delivers something that’s truly premium. We will continue to develop new varieties to keep inspiring customers and help drive the market forward. And wherever possible these will be locally sourced from within the UK,” Colrein added.
The new range includes Piccolo cherry on the vine, golden cherry and a variety pack of premium snacking varieties, called Tomato Temptations. Prices range from £1.28 to £1.48.
