Potato growers will have the opportunity to put their questions to specialists at a new event: the East of England Potato Day on 1 September at Frederick Hiam, Hill Farm, Tuddenham, Bury St Edmunds.

Held in association with Branston Potatoes, Fenmarc Produce, McCain Foods and QV Foods the event is entirely field-based. Lively discussions are expected as growers will appreciate the chance to quiz Dr Mark Stalham from Cambridge University Farm (CUF) on how to reduce bruising, while Dr David Firman, also from CUF, will be speaking and answering questions on grower collaboration, reducing nitrogen and seed rates.

Delegates will be able to discuss seed treatments with agronomists from Bayer, BASF and Syngenta, and see defoliation treatments managed by Frontier. In addition there will be the opportunity to view numerous new varieties that will be on display, with the breeders on hand to answer questions.

“These practical discussions really help growers make informed business decisions,” said Gary Collins at Potato Council. “Delegates have the opportunity to discuss their concerns with speakers, so they can really benefit from their knowledge and experience.”
