IntertechPira has published two food contact legislation and regulations technology studies entitled: Plastic in Contact with Foodstuffs and Paper in Contact with Foodstuffs. The studies aim to help businesses get up to speed with the latest developments and identify which new substrates could be used for packaging and the legal implications of using them.

The plastics focused study covers the international food contact landscape in North America, EU Europe, the Middle East and Asia and will identify the new developments in plastic materials including multi-layered flexible plastics and what impact these new materials are having on food contact legislation. The report also examines the technical requirements for additives, inks and adhesives.

The paper study discusses how paper and board packaging is often seen as the green choice, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet shelf-time expectations and transportation requirements, as ever more complex barrier coatings are being applied to the substrate. It also covers the effect of recycled materials on food contact laws, as well as a complete guide to barrier coatings.
