A new managing director has been appointed to steer expanding Lincolnshire pot plant supplier the Butters Group through the next stage of its development.

Andy Coaten, currently managing director of Fast Track Flowers, will take the helm in January at the £40 million a year company, which supplies most of the UK’s supermarkets and garden centres.

Coaten began his career in sales with Lingarden Flowers, where he progressed over a nine-year period from national account manager to procurement director, with responsibility for purchasing more than £20m of flowers, and then to business unit director.

In 2000 he was appointed managing director of England’s Garden Plants, and then in 2005, managing director of Fast Track Flowers, during which time he has taken the start-up business from nothing to a turnover of £12m, supplying British and seasonal flowers to Asda, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.

Coaten said: “The potential to grow this business [Butters] is there for everyone to see.

“All good businesses require excellent customers, staff and suppliers, and Butters already has all of these important elements in place. I see my job as ensuring that our staff and suppliers are in a position to deliver our customers' key needs in terms of innovation, quality and value.”
