Mango growers in Western Australia and the Northern Territory are celebrating after securing new markets in Europe.
Kensington Pride fruit from the north is already selling in three major supermarket chains in the UK, but new customers have just signed up in Paris, Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Russia.
Peter Johnson from WA's Department of Agriculture said there is a potential 250 million customers in Europe.
“With one container of fruit, we're barely putting two or three trays of fruit into each supermarket per week. These companies we're dealing with have over 1,000 stores each, some of them.
“So it's quite feasible to sell anything up to 10, 20, 30 trays a week in each store.”
