New Covent Garden Market has received an important boost for its future with the announcement that a new general manager has been appointed by the board of Covent Garden Market Authority.
The new incumbent at the authority will be Jan Lloyd who was managing director of the Anglo-French joint venture Yoplait Dairy Crest for six years, and has been in commercial management for some 20 years. Much of her career has been in the food industry, covering food manufacturing and distribution, and she has extensive experience of managing major programmes of change.
Lloyd will take over from Mike Liggins who retires at the end of next month. Baroness Dean, chairman of Covent Garden Market Authority, said: "I am delighted to welcome Jan Lloyd to the authority at this crucial period as we seek with Defra and its consultants to identify options for securing the future success of the market. I have full confidence in Jan's experience of developing organisations to meet future business needs, while at the same time delivering impressive performance figures. This is tremendous news for all the market's stakeholders."
Accepting her appointment, Lloyd said: "I feel very fortunate to be taking up this role at a time when we have such a wonderful opportunity to build on the value of the market to its tenants and their customers, and indeed its value in commercial and social terms for London as a whole. I look forward to working with the staff at the authority and with the many individuals and organisations that have an interest in the market."
