The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is offering a new diploma in management as part of its all-encompassing industry training courses. The four-week residential course is an extension of FTA’s existing certificate of professional competence (CPC) and diploma courses, and leads to a recognised qualification, awarded by the Chartered Management Institute. Based on the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership, it has Level 5 accreditation under the National Qualifications Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Level 9 on the Scottish Qualifications framework.

The course is aimed at middle managers in transport looking to develop their skills and reach senior level. There are no specific entry requirements but candidates are likely to have a CPC, a certificate in management or several years’ experience at supervisory or management level.

FTA has just published its latest training prospectus, covering areas such as CPC, dangerous goods training, compliance, digital tachographs and driver and mechanical handling training.

In addition to this FTA is running a series of 13 new two-hour member briefings on current compliance issues on various dates during January 2008. Subjects covered include the London Low Emission Zone, graduated fixed penalties, O-licence changes, falls from vehicles, EU records changes, vehicle recovery and the Driver Training Directive.

Briefings will be held throughout the country and there is a choice of morning, afternoon and evening sessions. For details go to www.fta.co.uk.
