Cranberries have added yet another string to their health bow with the results of a new study by Canadian scientists.
Research carried out by Laval University in Quebec revealed the fruit can improve circulation by increasing the level of HDL ‘good’ cholesterol and also by acting as a powerful antioxidant.
The new is in addition to reports over the years which has attributed the humble cranberry the abilities to fight everything from urinary infections to tooth decay and heart disease.
A spokesman for the University said: “By consuming a daily glass of light cranberry juice, the good cholesterol found in the blood increased.
“An increase in HDL cholesterol is a sign that the arteries are clearing up of the accumulated cholesterol, which is positive for the heart.”
