Dole’s South African grape division will be managing Moroccan table grapes for the first time this season.

Supplies are under way and as Dole’s Moroccan production region is relatively new, the change in management has made it possible for the region to benefit from the experience of the pre- and post- harvest expertise of the South African team, said Leon Van Biljon, grape business manager for Dole South Africa.

Dole handles approximately 65 per cent of the entire Moroccan grape crop. White seedless varieties make up the bulk of the harvest, with smaller volumes of red seedless. The UK supermarket trade is the target market for much of the production.

Van Biljon said that improvements in growing practices, harvesting and distribution have all helped enhance the quality of the crop.
