Portsmouth-based produce distributor MMD Shipping Services has named Steve Williams as its new permanent general manager.
Williams has been working as a board advisor at MMD for the past five months, alongside managing the company on an interim basis. He has previously worked at Humber International Terminal, as well as a 30-year career at Associated British Ports (APB).
MMD is now also recruiting a new business development manager as it looks to grow port operations, and target new sectors outside the fresh produce sector.
Port director at Portsmouth International Port and director of MMD, Mike Sellers, said: “In April Steve was tasked with reviewing the whole life cycle of the business and to advise on the best structure to ensure we become a successful long term operation.
“Since his arrival, the board has been impressed with the changes made so far and the objectives Steve has set for the company. Now Steve is in place permanently as general manager and board director, we’re in a position to drive the future of MMD into a much more commercially viable business. Coupled with the recruitment of a new business manager, opportunities for MMD are incredibly exciting.”
Williams said: “Over the last five months I have seen a lot of potential in the business, and the investment that has helped MMD maintain its reputation as a leading handler of fresh produce from all over the world.
