Adrian Barlow has joined the board

British Growers Association has named a new chairman and bolstered its board with three further appointments.

Mark Leggott, who is currently a member of both the NFU Horticulture and PGRO boards, replaces Richard Hirst as chairman after his two-year period in office came to an end.

Meanwhile English Apples & Pears chief executive Adrian Barlow, G’s Growers managing director Nick Douglas and Andrew Wraith of the Green Pea Company and Savills were all unanimously appointed to the board this week. Michael Parker retired after 29 years of service.

“Richard Hirst has seen our organisation through a period of significant strategic evolution and we are indebted to him in seeing us to this point,” said British Growers CEO James Hallett. “Richard will continue to play an important role on the British Growers Association board, ensuring that we make a positive difference for our grower members.”

Of the three new board members, he added: “We continue to develop and improve our activities in representing and promoting the fresh produce growing industry across the UK. These appointments demonstrate our desire to ensure that we are well engaged and able to support all sectors of horticulture.”
