A UK support partnership has launched a new compost section on its website.
FoodFen – a collection of businesses and public sector organisations that helps the Fenland agri-food industry – aims to advise firms on how to composte waste rather than pay for its disposal.
The new project follows a meeting that FoodFen organised for around 30 food industry chiefs.
FoodFen director Richard Turner said: 'Currently it costs around £31 per tonne to spread waste on land, and between £15 and £20 per tonne to compost organic material.' He added that an Environment Agency review on disposal of organic matter waste meant composting could become an even more vaiable option next year.
