Sakata Seed and the Hyogo Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Technology Center announced this week in Tokyo that they have established an innovative coating technology for seeds.

The newly-developed technology can coat seeds with living organisms that have inhibitory effects against soil-borne fungi.

The technology can facilitate pest control without the excessive use of pesticides and serves for safer and more environmentally friendly agriculture.

Called Live Coat, this is the first such pest control technology that has been developed in the world. Compared to conventional approaches, the latest innovative technology helps achieve labour saving and low-cost pest control.
