The Flowers & Plants Association, the UK’s promotional organisation for cut flowers and indoor plants, has announced the appointment of a new chairman to its board of directors.
Martin Slocock will take over the post from Robin Herbert, who officially announced his retirement at the association’s general meeting last month. Herbert has been chairman of the association for eight years, during which the organisation stepped up its promotional campaigns with a return to television advertising.
Addressing members, Herbert said: “Our staff, led as ever by Veronica Richardson, have performed outstandingly well and earned the warmest gratitude of the Board.”
Slocock has a wealth of experience in the industry. His family has run a tree and shrub nursery in Surrey for three generations. Throughout his career, Slocock has served as president and treasurer of the Horticultural Trades Association; Treasure of the Royal Horticultural Society; and as a UK delegate to AIPH, the worldwide growers’ organisation.
He will be officially welcomed at a commemorative lunch in London on October 8.
