New regulations for banana importers come into force on 1 August.
From that date, DEFRA must be pre-notified of all imports of bananas from outside of the EU into England and Wales using the PEACH system.
All traders importing bananas must be registered on the PEACH system, which is being phased in from 11 May until 1 August. During this period, inspectors from the RPA’s Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate (HMI) will provide advice to importers, said a DEFRA spokeswoman.
