New £2.6m warehouse boost for Portsmouth

MMD (Shipping Services) has opened a new £2.6m warehouse at the international port in Portsmouth.

The 3,750 sq metre building is split into four separate warehouse areas, each with their own climate control system. The building has 126 bays, each taking 27 pallets of produce, meaning overall pallet capacity at Portsmouth is up to 18,500.

The state-of-the-art temperature system can tailor the environment to suit any variety of fruit or vegetable. Motion sensitive LED lights help reduce energy usage and have no impact on temperatures because they don’t produce heat.

Port manager Martin Putman said: “I’m delighted that the new warehouse facility is open for business, helping to keep our facilities at Portsmouth International Port among the very best in Britain. It’s important that we stay ahead of our competition, maintaining jobs and building our business."
