Danish discounter Netto has bought 19 Kwik Save stores from Somerfield.
Although the full details have not been disclosed, it is thought that the majority of the stores are in the north of England and Lincolnshire. They will be converted during 2006.
Somerfield announced last week that it has sold 248 Kwik Save stores, including 171 - and the Kwik Save brand - to BTTF Ltd. Netto has therefore confirmed itself as the buyer of 19 of the remaining 77 stores.
Netto UK managing director Claus Waedeled announced: “We are very pleased to announce this acquisition which will further expand Netto's share of the UK retail market and introduce Netto Smart Shopping to more consumers in the UK. Netto is planning to open an additional 15 stores this year which means that by the end of 2006 we will be operating from more than 180 sites."
