My way: Bellotti

A new type of packaging designed to accommodate longer, narrower vegetables made its debut at SIFEL.

Designed by Nespak, a subsidiary of the French packaging group Guillin, the FL15 is a special transparent oblong tray that can be used to retail produce such as courgettes, bunches of herbs, or on-the-vine tomatoes. “We are trying to look for new ideas,” said Massimo Bellotti, export manager. “The F15 is good because it looks different and it’s easy to pick up.”

The company also showcased its new grape insert for use in crates. Consisting of four moulded compartments, the insert is designed to reduce the amount of handling received by the product, and could ensure that a bunch of grapes is only touched once during its journey from orchard to retailer - when it is picked.

Dynaplast, another Guillin-owned company, displayed its unique shell-style packaging solution for grapes and cherries, which has already been taken up by some multiple retailers in France. The punnet’s versatile design also enabled it to be used for a number of different fruits for Sainsbury’s recent 5 A DAY campaign.
